from the family that carries the strongest political leadership,
Governor Mamintal Alonto-Adiong Jr., endearingly called “Bombit”,
is, by birth, empowered to ascend his high in the ladder of
leadership in local governance. He has for a father the late
Gov. Mamintal “Mike” Adiong Sr., and as relatives,
Senator Alauya Alonto, Senator Ahmad Domocao Alonto, Gov.
Madki Alonto and Gov. Tarhata Lucman. He has ARMM regional
vice-governor and concurrent DILG-ARMM Sec. Ansaruddin Alonto
Adiong for a brother. Abudantly preceded and reared in the
environment of local governance, governing has become synonymous
to everyday living for the young governor.
Having started his career in local governance when he was
appointed board member in 1996 and elected to the position
in 1998, Gov. Adiong has adequately armed himself and enhanced
his skills in policy research, formulation and reformulation
that has led to successful efforts at peace negotion and feud
settlements in the province that earned for him the citation
“Meritorious Service and Full Support to the Council
of Elders, Peace and Order Pacification Campaigning.”
Moreover, his sponsored policies that spurred development
in the rural areas, particularly in livelihood, sports, infrastructure
support facilities, irrigation and tourism earned him a commendation
for “Meritorious Leadership in Policy-Making as Board
Member” for his Lanao Leaders’ Achievement Award.
His skills in executive management and propelling priority
programs and projects, on the other hand, was further honed
by his experience as the province’s sports officer starting
in 2001 and concurrently provincial administrator. In 2003,
he assumed the OIC provincial engineer position and a year
later, the provincial engineer. His stint in the private sector
as CEO of MMA Construction and Development Corp., that earned
his representation of the business community in the ARMM Social
Fund Project further seasoned his trademark conscientious
public service. Consequently, his trademark work efficiency
resulted to a directorship in the Basketball Association for
ARMM, presidency for the Road Engineering Association of the
Philippines, membership to the board of PICE, Jamiatul Philippine
al-islamia, LASURECO, Alpha Phi Omega International Philippines
Inc and chairmanship of the board for MMA Achiever, Boy Scouts
of the Philippines-Lanao del Sur Council, and the Kanumayan
Group. His efficient provision of service to the public earned
him several consultancy stints for the Regional Legislative
Assembly, the regional governor and for regional infrastructure
projects.
The pressures brought forth by Gov. Adiong’s passion
to achieve and better his craft as local development manager
of Lanao del Sur finds its solace in the arms of four wonderful
children – Mamintal III, Mohammad Khalid, Soraya Harifa,
Abdul Malic and wife, Bedjoria Raifa Raki-in. At present,
the young governor, at 42, is capacitating himself for more
challenges as he pursues changes in the face of Lanao del
Sur.
