| Governor
Datu Andal S. Ampatuan is a prominent citizen of the Autonomous
Region of Muslim Mindanao (ARMM). Popularly known as Governor
Andy, he is at the forefront of socio-economic development
programs and peace and order concerns that have acquired national
and international import.
Governor
Andy has been at the helm of Maguindanao’s socio-economic
development since he first got the overwhelming mandate of
his constituents in 2001, then was re-elected in 2004. During
the May 14, 2007 elections, the Maguindanaonons reaffirmed
their confidence in him as their provincial chief executive,
to complete a full three terms.
Aside
from his overwhelming victory in the gubernatorial race, Gov.
Ampatuan also delivered for the senatorial candidates of the
Team Unity an unprecedented 12-0 victory in the entire province.
Prior
to his election to the highest position in Maguindanao, he
served a full-term as municipal mayor of Shariff Aguak after
serving for one term as the town’s vice-mayor.
Gov.
Ampatuan’s knowledge of local governance has been purely
hands-on. These experiences equipped him with the techniques
and capability to plan and manage the municipal, and later,
provincial development programs.
He
faces the job of pump-priming the local economy alongside
the other Muslim-dominated LGUs and opening opportunities
designed to strengthen the country’s southern backdoor.
