| Governor
Douglas “Dodo” RA Cagas, was born in Oroquieta,
Misamis Occidental on December 3, 1943. He is married to Mercedes
Chan Cagas.
Douglas
finished his grade school at San Vicente Alto Elementary School
at Oroquieta as Valedictorian. He graduated at the top of
his class as Salutatorian in high school at Northern Mindanao
Academy in Tudela, Misamis Occidental.
Thereafter,
he enrolled at Silliman University where he graduated from
the degree of Bachelor of Arts, he pursued his Bachelor of
Laws at the University of the East. Having graduated as a
Class Valedictorian in University of the East in 1967, he
took the Bar in the same year and ranked 4th place among those
who passed. He took up his post graduate studies at Asian
Institute of Management in 1990, National Defense College
of the Philippines in 1992 with a Masters in National Security
Administration and University of Asia and the Pacific in 1995
with Masters in Business Economics.
He
entered the world of politics in 1984 as a member of the Regular
Batasang Pambansa. Then he served for three consecutive terms
as governor of Davao del Sur until 1998. After completing
his term, he was elected congressman of the 1st District of
Davao del Sur, a position he was once more elected to for
three consecutive terms.
In
the May 14, 2007 elections, the electorate of Davao del Sur
once more decided to give Governor Cagas an overwhelming mandate
to serve them as their local chief executive. Likewise, his
colleagues in the Davao Region elected him to represent them
in the National Executive Board as Chairman for Region X.
As
the representative of the 1st District of Davao del Sur, he
received awards for the relevant and effective management
of the province. Among these awards are: “Outstanding
Congressman in the Region ’98 (Region XI)” given
by the Asusasyon ng Kumentarista at Anawnser ng Pilipinas;
“Most Outstanding Master Mason in Government Service”
and “Outstanding Public Service” given by University
of Mindanao.
