After serving as Batanes’ local chief executive for three terms, Governor Telesforo F. Castillejos is back at the helm of the provincial government to carry on the various development efforts he had begun in the past.

He joined the civil service in 1979 as the provincial engineer of Batanes, a position he held until he filed his candidacy for the 1998 gubernatorial race, which he won handily. His mandate as governor was reaffirmed twice in the 1992 and 1995 elections.

In the May 14, 2007 elections, he made a successful comeback as the new governor of Batanes after a nine-year hiatus from public service.

For two years, from 1992 to 1993, he engaged himself in consultancy as the project manager of the MOHRI Group of Companies.

Gov. Castillejos earned his Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering at the Mapua Institute of Technology. For his post-graduate studies, he attended the executive program at the Kennedy School of Government of Harvard University in the United States, and took up Masters in Business Administration at the Philippine School of Business Administration.

He attended various local and international workshops including that on Small and Medium Enterprise Promotions Program in Helsinki, Finland; on Economic Promotions by Local Authorities sponsored by the German Foundation for International Development held in Berlin, Germany; on Local Government Administration of the Australian International Development Assistance Program in Melbourne, Australia; on Technical Management of Local Government at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology in Melbourne, Australia, among others.

He was born on January 5, 1947 and is married to Susan Samson-Castillejos, who bore him seven children.
