| Governor
Raul A. Daza is a lawyer and a certified public accountant,
with law and business administration degrees, both cum laude,
the former from the University of the Philippines and the
latter from the University of the East. A lifetime member
both of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) and the
Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA),
he is also a member of the State Bar of California, USA, and
a former member of the California Society of CPA’s.
He is the first Filipino to pass both the California attorney
examination and the California accountancy examination without
a formal education in the United States.
Among
his national government stints were Deputy Minister of the
Presidential Commission on Good Government (PCGG), Representative
of the Lone District of Northern Samar in the 7th Philippine
Congress, Representative of the First District in the 8th
Congress, Speaker Pro Tempore of the 9th Congress, and Senior
Deputy Speaker of the 10th Congress.
Now
on his third term, he has been a strong advocate of decentralization
and local autonomy. He is an active member of the League of
Provinces where he serves as Chairperson for Region VIII.
A
sports enthusiast, he has been Chairman of the Board of the
Amateur Boxing Association of the Philippines (ABAP).
Born
in Manila on May 2, 1935, he is married to the former Teresita
S. Ruiz, with four children: Paul, Gina, Apple and John.
