Orlando A. Fua begun his political career at 26 when former
Pres. Corazon Aquino appointed him as OIC governor of the
Province of Siquijor from Dec. 2, 1987 to February 1, 1988,
after which he went back to private life and practiced his
profession as a lawyer.
Public service beckoned
once more in 1995 when he scored a seat in the Sangguniang
Panlalawigan of Siquijor. In 2001, he was elected to represent
the Lone District of Siquijor in the House of Representatives,
and this mandate was reaffirmed in the 2004 elections.
In Congress, he authored,
among others, three major bills for the promotion and protection
of the environment, including that providing for the national
land use policy and planning framework, or the National Land
Use Act of the Philippines; for the sustainable management
of forest resources; and for a comprehensive water resources
management to address the national water crisis.
During the May 14,
2007 elections, Gov. Fua got an overwhelming mandate to serve
as the local chief executive of Siquijor in the next three
years. Likewise, he was appointed as deputy secretary-general
for the Visayas of the League of Provinces of the Philippines.
Gov.
Fua earned his Bachelor of Laws at the University of San Carlos
in 1986 and passed the bar examinations a year after. He is
married to Grace Fua, a Provincial Agrarian Reform Officer.
