| Governor
Enrique T. Garcia is currently on his second term as governor
of the Province of Bataan, a position he previously held for
one term from 1992 to 1994.
A
lawyer by profession, he has carved for himself a niche in
Bataan’s political arena in the last 20 years. His political
career begun in 1987 when he was elected to represent the
2nd district of the province in the House of Representatives.
After serving a single term, he threw his hat into the gubernatorial
arena and handily got the nod of the constituents of Bataan.
In 1995, he once more ran for congressman of his district
and won a seat in the House of Representatives, three elections
in a row.
After
serving the full three terms in Congress, he was once more
elected governor in 2004, and this mandate was reaffirmed
on May 14, 2007. He was likewise appointed as member of the
Council of Advisers of the League of Provinces of the Philippines.
After
finishing his elementary education at the Balanga Elementary
School and high school at the Bataan High School, Gov. Garcia
enrolled at the De La Salle College, where he obtained both
of his Bachelor’s degrees in Accounting and Economics
in 1963. In 1970, he finished a course in Linear Programming
which he took up at the EMSI in New Jersey, USA.
Prior
to his venture into politics, Gov. Garcia started his career
at ESSO Philippines, Inc. where he too the positions of Senior
Auditor, Senior Financial Analyst, and Assistant Marketing
Economic Manager before he moved to ESSO Standard Eastern,
New York and Humble Oil – Texas both as executive trainee.
In 1971, he returned to ESSO Philippines, Inc., where he assumed
the position of Marketing Economist and Resident Manager until
1973. From 1974 – 1979, he was president of VICGAR Trading,
then moved to the civil service as executive assistant of
the Bureau of Internal Revenue from 1980 to 1982. He was senior
partner of the Garcia, Lava & Associates from 1983 until
1987, when he ran for congressman.
Gov.
Garcia has been actively involved in the Supreme Court cases
relative to the Oil Deregulation Law and the Relocation of
the Petro-Chemical Plant.
Born
on September 13, 1940, Tet, as he is fondly called, is married
to Victoria S. Garcia with whom he has five children, namely:
Anna, Abet, Gila, Joet and Francis.
