Corazon Nuñez Malanyaon was born on August 22, 1949
in the municipality of Cateel in Davao Oriental. Born to a
simple and happy family, Cora Malanyaon finished her elementary
and high school in the same town with flying colors and graduated
as valedictorian.
She finished her Bachelor of Science in Commerce with a major
in Accountancy and a minor in Finance and Management at the
prestigious Ateneo de Davao University and graduated Cum Laude.
She has also finished her Bachelor of Laws in the same school
and graduated Cum Laude as well.
Being the epitome of academic excellence, it was a breeze
for her to enter the highly competitive corporate world, working
with various highly prestigious companies in the country and
eventually put up her own law firm.
Long before she enter the political landscape of Davao Oriental,
Cora Malanyaon served as the consistent number one city councilor
of Davao from 1986 to 1992 and has also served as vice mayor
of Davao City thereafter.
In 2001, she entered the political landscape of Davao Oriental
having served as congresswoman of Davao Oriental’s first
district from 2001 up to 2007. In the recently concluded
May 14, 2007 electoral exercises, Cora Malanyaon made history
as the one who got the highest mandate ever in the political
history of Davao Oriental, trouncing a well-entrenched political
clan.
Cora Malanyaon is married to Luis Malanyaon Jr. They are blessed
with a daughter named Michelle.
