A product of the public school education, Governor Rafael “Raffy” Nantes is a good and inspiring model for the youth. He finished his elementary and secondary education at the Camp Crame Elementary School and the Sibulan Barangay High School (presently Polillo National High School), respectively. For his college education, he got his Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the National University.

He was hardworking, persistent, and determined to realize what he believed in, struggling hard to rise above his family’s poverty. In order to eke out a living, he sold fish and shone shoes in his native town, Polillo, Quezon at a very early age of six.

Nantes is a pride of Quezon, an outstanding congressman for three consecutive terms from 1998 to 2007, before he won the gubernatorial post in the May 14, 2007 elections. He is one of the few representatives of Quezon who was elected as member of the Commission on Appointments and the only representative in the province to be reelected with a 90 percent vote of confidence and run unopposed during his third term. He is one of the few representatives in Congress who was able to source out funds worth P1.8 B fund for projects, programs and services for his district.

At present, he sits in the National Executive Board of the League of Provinces of the Philippines as the regional chairman for CALABARZON. He is also the national treasurer of the Liberal Party and incumbent chairman of the Boy Scouts of the Philippines, Quezon Council.

He is a Filipino inventor and one of the three manufacturers of industrial batteries in Asia, together with Japan and Korea. Nantes formulated Reporma Para sa Nayon, a program which, he believes, could bring development in the countryside which could be realized through the implementation of programs and services founded in the development of: Negosyo at Kooperatibismo, Agrikultura at Likas Yaman, Nutrisyon at Kalusugan, Teknolohiya at Komunikasyon, Edukasyon, Suportang Serbisyo, and Peace and Order.

Gov. Nantes is married to Betty B. Nantes, with whom he has a son, Samuel.
