| Now
in her third term as Samar’s chief executive, Gov. Milagrosa
Ty Tan holds the distinction of being the very first elective
lady governor of the province since its creation in 1965.
Her political career
begun in 1998 when she ran for and won a seat in the Sangguniang
Panlalawigan of Samar, representing the province’s 2nd
district. During her term as Provincial Board member, her
peers elected her as majority floor leader.
Driven by her desire
to serve the constituents of Samar in a higher capacity, the
then neophyte board member sought the governorship in 2001
and was providentially given the mandate. Through the ballots,
the Samareños reaffirmed their trust in Gov. Tan to
effectively lead them toward development and prosperity by
voting for her a second time.
Prior to entering into
the political arena, Gov. Tan was a successful businesswoman.
The widow of Mr. Ricardo
Tan, the governor is also mother to a brood of four.
