Rolando Enriquez Yebes was born on September 20, 1949 in Dipolog
City to Librado Yebes and Remedios Enriquez.
After being admitted to the bar in 1975, Gov. Yebes started
to build his professional career with the Bureau of Customs
as a Private of the National Customs Police. His efforts to
become a good employee did not become fruitless as he was
able to conduct major operations which earned him commendations
and awards. After years of service with commendable accomplishments,
he became District Collector of Customs in the ports of the
Cities of Batangas, Davao, Manila, Zamboanga, Cebu, and until
his retirement in 2003.
In
2004, he came out of retirement and ran for his first-ever
political position as governor of the Province of Zamboanga
del Norte, with the campaign platform “Una sa Tanan,
ang Katawhan (Above All Else, the People).” He scored
a major victory in the 2004 elections, not only by winning
the mandate of the ZaNortehanons but also by defeating the
then incumbent governor who had served the province for the
past 15 years.
Banking on his solid accomplishments, guided by his development
agenda for Good Governance, Agricultural Development, Social
Welfare, Health and Nutrition Development, Quality Education,
Infrastructure Development, Environment Protection and Rehabilitation,
Tourism and Cultural Heritage Development and Peace and Order,
and Security, Gov. Yebes got a second mandate from his constituents
during the May 14, 2007 elections.
Aside from his gubernatorial duties, Gov. Yebes also sits
in the National Executive Board of the League of Provinces
of the Philippines as national chairman for the Zamboanga
Region. He is likewise the vice-president for Mindanao.
After completing his elementary and high school education
in Dipolog City at the Miputak Elementary School and St. Vincent’s
College, respectively, he went to Cebu City to pursue further
education at the University of San Jose Recolletos. There
he obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Political Science
in 1970 and after four years, his Bachelor of Laws.
Gov. Yebes is widowed by Susan Velez Go, with whom he has
four children, namely, Madilliene, Ronald, Rolando Jr. and
Richard.
