Governor Jose Ma. Zubiri Jr., a Negrense and son of sugarlandia by birth and cultural legacy, used to be a familiar figure in the House of Representatives, prior to his election as Bukidnon’s chief executive in 2001.

He is a BS Management graduate of the De La Salle University. With excellent foundations in business, he has the potential to sink in a lot of human resource capital to the local bureaucracy of Bukidnon.

Governor Zubiri’s experience in corporate management is vast. Prior to his outing in public service, he served as president and chief executive officer of a number of business firms. Among these were Urban Green Inc., Rancho Mercedes Inc. and Valle Escondida Farms. He was also EVP of the Bukidnon Sugar Milling Co. form 1975 to 1998. Up to the present, he sits as president of SGABI and chairman/president of the Sugarcane Farmers of Bukidnon Multi-Purpose Cooperative.

His record in public service lists a couple of years as Assemblyman in the Batasang Pambansa from 1984 to 1986. He served as Bukidonon’s congressional representative from 1987 until 1998.

In the 2001 elections, he was elected governor of Bukidnon. This mandate was reaffirmed in 2004. In the May 14, 2007 elections, he once more won via a landslide victory, to bring his governorship to a full three terms.

Governor Zubiri was born on August 11, 1940 in Kabangkalan, Negros Occidental. His union with Ma. Victoria Fernandez bore them five children namely, Rep. Jose Mari III (3rd District, Bukidnon), Manuel, Senator Juan Miguel, Beatrice and Stephanie.
