LUIS
CHAVIT C. SINGSON |
Governor,
Ilocos Sur |
As
I make known of the beauty of Ilocos Sur, may I express
my warmest greetings to the whole citizenry of the Philippines
especially to the populace of Region I for whom The Governor’s
Magazine is offered.
Ilocos Sur is basically an agricultural province where 51%
of its population is engaged in agricultural activities.
It is from this province where high value crops are produced
like tobacco, garlic, onion and corn among others. We also
envision Ilocos Sur to become the “GOAT CENTER of
the PHILIPPINES” with the upgrading of native stocks.
In the area of tourism, Vigan Heritage Village and Sta.
Maria Church have placed Ilocos Sur in the world tourism
map with their inclusion in the UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE LIST
which continue to draw tourists and visitors to the province,
thereby providing opportunity for the local industries to
showcase and promote their products.
Visiting Ilocos Sur does not only focus on seeing places
and sampling our products but is also complemented with
friendly and hospitable people who are ready to serve whenever
service is needed. The warmth and candor of our people are
traits inherent only to us in Ilocos Sur.
Our hopes are high for our long-cherished dream of making
Ilocos Sur as the country’s economic gateway in the
North. The province’s proximity to China and the potential
of Salomague Port of becoming the finest international seaport
in Northern Luzon provide the necessary impetus for this
dream. We are working hard for the full development of our
place from the cities down to the barangay level.
Visit Ilocos Sur once and you will yearn to be back again.
