  • 18 April 2006. The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) through the Office of Programs and Standards (OPS) conducted the National Consultation on the “Policies, Standards and Guidelines on the Establishment and Operation of Local Colleges and Universities” at the Bayview Park Hotel, Manila. This activity was set to present the CHED TWG output to the public for review and approval. Moreover, this meeting was the culmination of the series of consultations conducted by the CHED Technical Working Group (TWG) for Local Colleges and Universities. The participants overwhelmingly supported the principle by which the TWG output was founded. The LPP, together with other LGU leagues, is part of this TWG.
  • 04 April 2006. The Bureau of Local Government of DILG sponsored the meeting on the Millennium Development Goals (MDG) Localization at the Local Government Academy. This engagement aimed to promote the Community-Based Monitoring System (CBMS) as a tool for MDG benchmarking. Currently, there are 13 provinces and five cities in the country implementing the CBMS. Scaling up this MDG benchmarking tool to meet MDG targets was the focus of discussion. Asec. Panadero of the DILG presided over the meeting and urged the LPP to actively take part in the advocacy and scaling up of CBMS.
  • 10 March 2006. The Senate Committee on Urban Planning, Housing and Resettlement conducted a public hearing on Senate Bill No. 1294 entitled “Magna Carta for Homeowner’s Associations (HOA’s)” at the Senate of the Philippines, Pasay City. This bill was sponsored by Committee Chairman Sen. Rodolfo G. Biazon. The principle of the bill was amenable to the various HOA’s present. However, a deviation of opinion surfaced on the issue of whether the HLURB or SEC would have jurisdiction over the multifarious HOA’s in the country. Sen. Biazon advised the parties concerned to draft position papers with regard to this issue in order for his committee to come up with a sound legislation.
  • 09 March 2006. The Senate Committee on Urban Planning, Housing and Resettlement also conducted the public hearing on Senate Bill No. 1295 entitled “Local Housing Boards Act”. This bill was sponsored by Committee Chairman Sen. Rodolfo G. Biazon. The very core of the public hearing was to solicit relevant information and garner constructive opinion as aid in legislation both from the private and the public sectors. This bill is intended to create local housing boards in the country to provide decent and permanent housing for Filipinos. In principle, the LPP supported this bill as an integral factor in their delivery of basic services to the people.
