Food
security, education, health and nutrition, tourism, history,
culture and arts and environmental management remained the
priority thrust of Governor Salvacion Z. Perez during her
State of the Province Address at the Sangguniang Panlalawigan
Session Hall recently.
“By
giving me another three more years to serve,” Governor
Perez said, I will sustain the same top priorities with specific
projects to back them up such as build a new hospital, finish
the Diosdado Macapagal Bridge, construction of Tiolas-Hamtic
road in the south and Pandan-Libertad road in the north, rehabilitation
of Culasi Port, build crisis center for women and children,
encourage foreign investors to put up a 5-star hotel in San
Jose and construction of Gaisano Mall, construction of San
Remigio-Leon Road, construction of hydro power projects and
construction of legislative building.”
Perez
further pledged to stand firm on her commitment to deliver
efficiently and effectively the services for the Antiqueños.
Stressing that it is not an easy task, the Governor appealed
for the support of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan and the entire
people of Antique to join hands in the quest for a “new
Antique and a renewed Antiqueño”.
Perez
also take pride in the creation of the Local Legislative -
Executive Development Advisory Council as a manifestation
of genuine love for the province and partnership of executive
and legislative branches with one resounding voice in moving
Antique forward and making a difference in the life of every
Antiqueño.
Among
the major accomplishments are the reclassification of the
province form 3rd to 2nd class with an income of P463.4 million
in 2006, sustained improvement in agriculture sector where
Antique was declared to be free from foot and mouth disease
and remained a rice surplus province and high revenue collection
in sand and gravel mining operations which generated a net
income of about half million pesos. Strengthening the small
and medium enterprises, the province has come up with Provincial
Harmonized Small and Medium Enterprises Development Plan that
can create more than 5000 jobs every year.
The
Governor also reported the successful implementation of child
friendly programs supported by United Nations Children’s
Fund, Council for the Welfare of Children and other local
initiated programs that contributed to the fulfillment of
four categories of child’s rights which are protection,
survival, development and participation.
In
conclusion, Governor Perez challenged the local officials
and all Antiqueños to uphold the identity of the province
as one of the flourishing provinces in Western Visayas and
take pride in our endeavors to attain sustainable development
in an atmosphere of unity, peace and harmony. (PS Mabaquiao/PIA)
