Local Code amendments revolve on national-local govt. wealth sharing

Senator Pimentel discusses with the governors the bill he filed in the Senate proposing certain amendments to the Local Government Code. With him are Gov. Singson and Gov. Aumentado.

The major proposals for the amendments to the Local Government Code of 1991 revolve around the wealth sharing between the national and local governments.

This was shared by Sen. Aquilino Pimentel Jr. when he met with the governors during the last general assembly of the league.

Among his proposal are the equal sharing of the internal revenue taxes between the national and local governments, which means that the IRA share of LGUs will increase from the current 40% to 50%.

The senator urged the league to study and come up with a similar proposal that is both beneficial and workable for the LGUs since the governors are in a better position to give inputs and assess what needs to be amended in a Code that has been existent for sixteen years.

Pimentel‘s political affairs officer, Eleuterio Dumugho, added that his principal has already come up with 156 amendments to the code encompassed in a Senate Bill. (JSA / AJS)
