push for Gov. Eddie Bong as PAGCOR chair
What
began as a manifesto of support, has become a collective action
of the League of Provinces of the Philippines for the appointment
of a former colleague to the top post of Philippine Amusements
and Gaming Corp.
The LPP, in its last general assembly on June 16, approved
a resolution endorsing the appointment of former Agusan del
Sur Gov. Adolph Edward G. Plaza as chairman of the board of
the Philippine Amusements and Gaming Corporation.
Earlier, the governors also passed around a manifesto of support
calling on Pres. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo to seriously consider
appointing the former local chief executive to the helm of
PAGCOR, where he is currently the VP for PGMA.
His former colleagues at the LPP believe that Gov. Plaza’s
appointment as PAGCOR chairman, “could build links between
the national government and the LGUs and between LGUs and
the poorer sector of society with development interventions
that would provide hope, livelihood and a better life for
our people.”
Likewise, it is their view that with a former local chief
executive at the helm of PAGCOR, wider windows would be opened
for LGUs to access much needed financial and material support
from PAGCOR to promote and enhance countryside development.
In pushing for the appointment of Gov. Plaza, the governors
emphasized the latter’s track record in empowering local
government units and promoting countryside development and
sustaining economic growth, both as a two-term governor of
Agusan del Sur and as a champion for the cause of the LPP.
“Adolph Edward “Eddie Bong” G. Plaza has
been an effective and efficient two-term provincial governor
of Agusan del Sur who successfully infused renewed dynamism
in his province with his youth, energy and vision for empowered
local government units (LGUs),” his colleagues pointed
out.
They also averred that, “former Governor Plaza has,
on his own initiative and collaborative efforts, championed
the cause of the League of Provinces of the Philippines (LPP)
for countryside development and sustainable economic growth.”
Furthermore, they said that Gov. Plaza has been honed by his
upbringing to serve the public good and trained under a regime
of providing basic services under the Local Government Code.
This, thus, endows him the necessary qualities and background
to stir PAGCOR to greater heights and transform it as a stronger
partner in nation building and shaping the enduring legacy
of Pres. Arroyo for the Filipinos. (AJSanchez)
