CAVITE FORMALIZES ITS CLAIM AS THE HISTORICAL CAPITAL THROUGH THE KALAYAAN FESTIVAL

Kawit, Cavite -- As an addition to the traditional national flag-raising ceremonies done during Independence Day, Cavite Governor Ayong Maliksi spearheadd a grand celebration of freedom, the Kalayaan Festival, in the historical town of Kawit where the most significant moment in Philippine history happened.

Dubbed as the Cradle of Philippine Revolution and Birthplace of Philippine Independence, Cavite positions itself as the Historical Capital of the Philippines in this festival, having been blessed with the richest historical legacy that comprises the series of armed uprisings that began with the Cavite Mutiny of 1872 and ended with the proclamation of Philippine Independence by Caviteño General Emilio Aguinaldo on June 12, 1898 at the balcony of his house in Kawit.

The Kalayaan Festival aims to showcase a new way of experiencing our history and will hold the promise of adventure and discovery of our glorious past with great pride and enthusiasm. It unifies the 20 municipalities and 3 cities of the province in celebrating Cavite’s lasting historical and cultural contributions in molding our country as a nation and will explore its relevance in mapping the province’s initiatives towards its way to progress. Furthermore, through this festival, the province calls on the national committee to make Cavite the center of the annual celebration of Independence Day.

The Kalayaan Festival is in its 2nd year and will continue under the leadership of Gov. Maliksi to establish Cavite as the historical capital of the Philippines. The Governor has reiterated his support for education and preservation of cultural heritage and the promotion of revolutionary fervor in contemporary Cavite. “Many of our heroes, the great men and women of our history assembled, fought and died in Cavite to bring about the freedom we are enjoying today. They will serve as inspiration to our present and future generations, inculcating among the people a high sense of self-worth necessary for achieving greatness,” Maliksi said.
