RDC Federation throws in Cha-cha support for greater local autonomy

Gov. Rosette Y. Lerias
Southern Leyte

THE support for the move to amend the Constitution is mounting.

The Federation of Regional Development Councils of the Republic of the Philippines has recently firmed up their support for the campaign to strengthen the foundations of the country, through Resolution No. 8 (s. 2006) supporting charter change that aims to empower and result to greater autonomy of the local government units.

The FRDC is the conglomeration of the 16 RDC chairmen and co-chairs all over the country, whose task is to assist the national and local government in policy formulation, development planning and program/project implementation and evaluation.

The resolution, certified correct by Gov. Daisy Fuentes, as RDC Secretary, and Gov. Rosette Y. Lerias, as the FRDC president, stated that they “believe that policy and program innovations introduced by RDCs in the countryside through the local government can only propel national progress in a political system and governance that works well for and with the people.”

The LGUs development leaders stated that they are of strong conviction that the country needs a paradigm shift in the system of governance, one that will give local governments real and local autonomy.

This, they said, “will enable the LGUs to attain their development as self-reliant communicates and make them more effective partners in the attainment of national goals. (ANGELICA J. SANCHEZ)
