VICENTE “VIC” P. MAGSAYSAY
Governor, Province of Zambales

Magsaysay still my guy!

Governor Vicente P. Magsaysay was born in Castillejos, Zambales on January 20, 1940 to Jesus del Fierro Magsaysay of Castillejos, Zambales and Miguela Jamias Pulido of Sarat, Ilocos Norte.

He grew up in Sta. Maria, Castillejos and after the Japanese Occupation of the Philippines he took up his elementary education at Sta. Maria Elementary School in Castillejos. After finishing his elementary education, his parents brought him to Manila to pursue his secondary and college education at the San Juan de Letran College. Immediately after his graduation from the degree of Bachelor of Science in Commerce, he proceeded to Agusan del Sur in Mindanao to help his parents manage their business.

In Agusan, he started as a shop supervisor, road construction team leader, then rose from the ranks to become operations manager of their family’s logging and plywood processing and manufacturing. Thru his initiative, he was able to expand the business to Indonesia.

While in Agusan, he met and courted Rosellyn Dagani Enciso that ended in their marriage. Their union bore four children, namely: Jesus Vicente, Angelica, Mary Rose Lourdes and Victor Francis Ross.

From 1957 to 1967, he was appointed President of United Way of Zambales and Olongapo. He entered politics and ran as Governor of the province of Zambales on November 4, 1967. At the age of 27, he was then the youngest elected governor in the Philippines. He defeated three-term incumbent Governor Manuel D. Barretto by a substantial margin. As a KBL candidate, he was elected as Assemblyman in Region III in April 7, 1978. He was re-appointed Governor of Zambales on December 1978 and was re-elected on January 20, 1980, still as KBL Candidate. After the death of his father in 1988, he became the president of their family business, the JESSMAG, INC.

On May 11, 1998, he defeated his rivals for governorship. He has served three full terms. His victory in the May 10, 2004 elections was a landslide, making it an important event in his political history.

His selfless devotion of time, efficiency and hard work to his programs has directly benefited the lives of the Zambaleños. In return, he has earned the growing trust and solid support clearly manifested during elections.
