Biliran — The 2nd Governor Rogelio J. Espina Galing
Mo Awards (GMA) was recently launched here in order to give
recognition to the significant contributions, extraordinary
and exemplary deeds, acts and services that enhance and
promote the image of the Biliranons as competent, responsible
and dignified workers in the government and in the private
sector.
GMA is one of the lined-up activities in connection with
the 14th Provincehood Anniversary celebration on May 11,
2006.
The award was first given during last year’s provincehood
anniversary celebration where some 28 categories were conferred
to a number of groups and individuals in the province.
This year, a total of 50 categories are at stake to include
the best performing municipalities and barangays in areas
of education, health and nutrition, agriculture and environment,
economy development and public safety.
Awards like best performing national government agency and
non-government organization, most outstanding young entrepreneur
of the year, socially responsible entrepreneur of the year,
agribusiness entrepreneur of the year and small business
entrepreneur of the year are some of the new categories
of the GMA.
According to Dionisio B. Oliva, Jr., Acting Provincial Information
Officer, the provincial government has allotted P500,000.00
fot this activity to include the giving of cash awards in
the amount of P10,000.00 for the winning municipality, P5,000.00
for the winning barangay and P2,000.00 for each of the winning
individuals and groups plus a glass plaque for each winner.
For her part, Diana B. Chawdhury, Administrative Officer
IV and at the same time Co-Chairperson of GMA Committee
this year said that the eight municipalities in the province
of Biliran shall submit a nominee for each category and
the names of groups and individuals for evaluation and final
selection of the provincial screening committee of the awardee
in each category.
During the launching of the GMA activities, Governor Espina
said that the giving of awards like this is an important
motivation to Biliranons to do more good things for the
improvement and development of the province.
Governor Espina also stressed that the Galing Mo Awards
will encourage Biliranons to emulate the good deeds of individuals
