Catanduanes dads urge PGMA
to create special NBN-ZTE probe body

Local leaders of Catanduanes, under the leadership of Gov. Joseph C. Cua, have expressed their unconditional support to the administration and leadership of Pres. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

During the first assembly of the Liga ng mga Barangay of Catanduanes, Gov. Cua underscored the support received by the province from the national government under the Arroyo administration.

“In Catanduanes alone, the President has given our province billions worth of project, from infrastructure to hunger mitigation,” he said.

He cited that in 2007 alone, the DPWH implemented projects totaling P1.224 billion, P425 million for five projects undertaken by the regional office, and P799 by the district offices.

The governor pointed out that the provincial government believes that Pres. Arroyo is doing well for the country, and these are reflected in the improving economic conditions such as the increasing power of the peso, the upward growth rate and other indicators.

Apart from affirming their support to the President and her administration, the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Catanduanes likewise urged Pres. Arroyo to create a special commission to conduct a no-nonsense investigation into the ZTE-NBN project, report the findings and results of the investigation to the Filipino people in order that the proper courts could convict those who are found guilty and exonerate the innocent.

They likewise urged the chief executive to populate the special commission with members of unquestionable integrity and probity.

The Catanduanes provincial legislators and the barangay officials, in separate resolutions, expressed dismay over the “apparently scripted and partial investigations of the Senate.”

The local leaders said that the scriptwriter and the directors of the investigation on the alleged irregularities and corruption already have their eyes set on the 2010 elections and do not care about what becomes of the Filipino people when the country collapses because of their political propaganda and gimmickry.
