Village landmark in Kinuban, Maco. The village will
serve as a showcase when GK will be replicated to other
municipalities in Comval. All in all there will be 88
houses to compose the GK village. The first 50 houses
are those recently turned-over during the 2nd Bulawan
Festival on March 8. (ids comval) |
One
of the major highlights of the 2nd Bulawan Festival, as the
province celebrates its 11th Founding Anniversary, is the
showcasing and official turn-over of Gawad Kalinga houses
on March 8, 2009 right at the conduct of the Gawad Kalinga
Caravan from the Provincial Capitol to USWAG Gawad Kalinga
Designer Village in Barangay Kinuban of the Municipality of
Maco and vice versa.
The
said event has been participated by the Provincial Officials
headed by Governor Arturo T. Uy, Local Government Unit of
Maco headed by Mayor Arthur Carlos Voltaire R. Rimando, Gawad
Kalinga National Head of Operations Mari Oquiñena,
GK-ComVal headed by Engr. Arnold L. Maloloy-on, national agencies,
private entities, NGOs, donors, partners, and those people
who came to witness the inauguration and official turn-over
of the 50 GK houses to the “kapitbahayan” (recipients),
and the unveiling of its landmark.
Referred
to as a GK Designer Village, the USWAG GK will serve as a
showcase when GK will be replicated to the other municipalities
of the province. All in all there will be 88 houses to compose
such GK designer village. The first 50 houses are those recently
turned-over and are ready to be occupied. The next 38 houses
will be built on May 8 – 16, 2009 , the second phase
of the GK1MB (Isang Milyong Bayani) Challenge.
Enliven
by the magic that the GK brings, Governor Arturo T. Uy is
very much thankful to everybody for being a bayani in their
own strength and capacity. Much more, he is thankful to God
for such miracle. As he pointed out, poverty doesn’t
mean that the poor lack some resources, but it is for the
rich and comfortable to share and be partners and facilitators
of change for these poor people to help themselves in lifting
up their economic status. Rich and comfortable doesn’t
necessarily mean living a well-off life but rich in love,
in commitment, and comfortable in doing heroic acts.
In
his acceptance message, Mayor Voltaire Rimando of Maco said
that they really can’t forget such extra-ordinary, a
one-of-a-kind commitment given by the provincial government
through the leadership of Governor Uy and to the GK family
headed by Engr. Maloloy-on who made everybody understand that
in every endeavor, God is always at work.
For
a beneficiary, if not for the GK and the government, they
don’t know where they would be now, and how they are
going to start. “Nalipay kami ug daku kaayo ang among
pasalamat. Aduna kami upat ka mga gagmay pang anak. Wala ako’y
trabaho. Pero aduna na kami balay karon,” (We are very
happy and thankful. We have four little children. I am jobless,
but we have a house now) said the teary-eyed 52 year-old Marcelino
Balbueno who got the model house to occupy.
According
to the GK National Head of Operations, Mari Oquiñena,
Filipinos are generous. And our country, the Philippines is
full of leaders who seek first what is good for the people.
But here in ComVal they found a champion in the person of
Governor Arturo T. Uy whose heart really feels what is being
felt by the poor. Impossible as they said, but if everybody
has faith in God and in what everyone can do, nothing is impossible.
“Habang umaangat tayo sa buhay, di natin dapat kakalimutan
‘yung ibang mga tao na dapat din nating tulungang iangat.
Truly in Gawad Kalinga, walang iwanan,” he further stressed.
Everybody
swings and shouts “Lakas mo, lakas ko, lakas ng pagbabago,”
in performing the community dance right after the closing
message of the GK-ComVal Head Engr. Arnold L. Maloloy-on wherein
he emphasized that the turned-over GK houses are strongly
built not only because of the good materials being used but
more so because its foundation is LOVE—of the bayanis,
and of God. (Grace J. Almedilla/ids-comval)
