Koronadal
City — The South Cotabato government led by Governor
Daisy Avance Fuentes is considering a new food relief program
for the province to ease the growing cases of hunger and malnutrition.
The
said food relief program dubbed Hunger Alleviation on Program
would mostly benefit the tribal communities in far flung areas
of the province which aims to provide alternative food sources
for poor tribal families and at the same time open up sustainable
livelihood opportunities for them.
The
Provincial Nutrition Office would come up with the recommended
set of basic food requirements based on the recommended daily
allowance to ensure that target families would get regular
healthy meals.
Gov.
Fuentes said the goal of the provincial government is essentially
to alleviate the poor condition of the indigenous people’s
communities that are usually the ones who are suffering most
during this time of crisis.
The
Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office shall spearhead
the program which will adopt a two-pronged approach that will
have a strong bias on the integration of convergence support
services from stakeholders. (PIA 12)
