The
Commission on Elections (Comelec) has proclaimed the winners
of the just-concluded elections in this province after completing
the canvass of votes held at the Sangguniang Panlalawigan
session hall in the Provincial Capitol building here.
Lawyer
Elmer Kayanan, Comelec’s provincial election supervisor,
proclaimed last Saturday incumbent Gov. Enrique “Tet”
Garcia Jr. and businessman Serafin “Apin” Roman
duly-elected governor and vice-governor, respectively, along
with Second District Congressman Albert “Abet”
Garcia who triumphed in his reelection bid following completion
of vote canvass of Balanga City and Mariveles town, the
last to be tallied by the provincial canvassers.
Gov.
Garcia, who garnered 174,743 votes, topped in all of Bataan’s
11 towns and one component city to win by landslide against
former governor Ding Roman who got 118, 437 votes.
Garcia’s
running mate Apin, who lost in the 2004 poll for vice governor,
rebounded with a convincing victory against opponent Abucay
Mayor Liberato “Pambato” Santiago Jr., garnering
144,183 votes against the latter’s 114,829 votes.
Cong.
Abet, the governor’s eldest son, again proved his
popularity among voters of Bataan’s second district
when he tallied 84,571 votes to foil the congressional bid
of young lady lawyer Marie Gonzales, daughter of National
Security Adviser Norberto Gonzales, who accumulated 74,480
votes.
The
reelected solon nipped in the 2004 elections then-incumbent
governor Ding Roman to win a seat in Congress where he was
installed deputy majority leader, a great honor considering
he’s just on his first term.
Herminia
“ Minia” Roman, wife of outgoing three-termer
First District Congressman Tony Roman and an ally of the
Garcias, obtained 69,037 votes while her political rival
ex-Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) Chairman Felicito
Payumo posted 57,365 votes, giving Minia a huge winning
margin of 11,672 votes. (PIO/Province of Bataan)
