Tupas
thanks Ilonggos for new mandate.
Iloilo Governor Niel D. Tupas, Sr. thanked the people of
the province for giving him a fresh mandate in the just
concluded elections.
Tupas
won overwhelmingly over administration candidate Vice Governor
Roberto Armada who has already conceded his defeat.
“Now that the people have spoken, I extend the hand
of friendship to all those who opposed my leadership,”
said Tupas who will be serving a third successive term as
top official of the province. “For the next three
years, let us harness our energy and talents to propel the
growth and development of the province. Let us work in the
spirit of cooperation so that the full potentials of our
province and its people can be realized,” Tupas stressed
in his victory statement.
Tupas denied allegations of vote buying saying that he had
never engaged in vote buying in his 30 years in politics.
The governor also served as Mayor of Barotac Viejo and Representative
of the 5th district representing the towns of Barotac Viejo,
Ajuy, Lemery, Batad, Concepcion, Carles, Balasan, Estancia
and San Rafael.
There was also an attempt to unseat Tupas when he was handed
down a dismissal order on one of the several cases hurled
against him which resulted to the deplorable capitol siege
last January but they were able to secure a Temporary Restraining
Order in the nick of time.
“This victory is a vindication for me, a triumph of
truth and justice. It is a victory that rightfully belongs
to the people of Iloilo, for you have spoken with a loud
voice and demolished all the false accusations hurled against
me,” Tupas said.
The governor also stated that “it is a strong statement
that those who abuse their power cannot triumph over those
who fight for what is right.”
Tupas also thanked the good people of Iloilo for standing
by him during those critical moments of the Iloilo Capitol
siege and casting their vote of confidence in his leadership.
