New Congress urged
to become strategic partner for national development

It is time for the country to move forward and seize the moment.

LPP president and reelected Bohol Gov. Erico B. Aumentado appealed to the newly elected members of the 14th Congress to go beyond partisan politics and become a strategic partner of the executive department in its high growth course.

In a press statement issued by Aumentado on behalf of the league, he urged the new set of national legislators to “reject the politics of hate and obstructionism that had helped turn our country from a post-war powerhouse into an Asian basketcase.

He said that democracy has triumphed and the candidates vested with the electoral mandate have prevailed, thus it is time to bury the hurt and hate and move forward.

“Let us seize the moment, specifically the unprecedented growth on the Arroyo watch – marked by 24 quarters of non-stop expansion of our economy – that has made the Philippines the new investment darling in the region.

He said that for the country to continue its unprecedented growth in the last six years, it should remove the last remaining roadblock of hate and divisive politics.

8 by ’08 Social Payback Agenda n jobs creation
  • cost of living improvement
  • strong peso
  • increasing investments
  • pro-poor education
  • health care/housing/ending hunger
  • a green Philippines
  • a strong antiterror campaign

With Congress working together, it can craft policies and legislation in support of Pres. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s “8 by ’08 Agenda” of social payback to the masses and enhance the solid growth fundamentals her leadership put into place in the last six years.

Aumentado lamented that there are some sectors engaging in hate and divisive politics who prefer to have a country that is backward, chaos-stricken rather than a tiger of prosperity and a haven of political stability and lasting peace.

“Let us give them a fair warning: for our country and our people, please cease and desist for pursuing such adventurism and infantilism. Let the provinces, cities and municipalities prosper. Let the countryside bloom. Let President Arroyo take us into our new dawn.” (AJS)
