Gov. Salvacion Z. Perez receives the plaque of recognition
given to her by officials of the Regional Development
Council for Region 6 shortly after she was reelected
as RDC chair. |
Antique
Gov. Salvacion Z. Perez was reelected unopposed as chairperson
of the Western Visayas Regional Development Council (RDC
VI) after Iloilo City mayor Jerry Treñas backed out
of the race for the sake of unity. Treñas decision
to drop out from the RDC chairmanship race came after the
five other Western Visayas governors expressed their unequivocal
support for Perez.
The
five governors of Western Visayas expressed their support
for Gov. Perez even before the Comelec proclaimed her victory
in the May 14, 2007 gubernatorial race. They approved a
resolution asking the Comelec to proclaim her as the duly
elected governor of Antique even while she was busy with
the cases being filed to stop her proclamation.
As
a reaffirmation of their trust in her, the five governors
likewise passed a manifesto endorsing Gov. Perez’
appointment as RDC chair.
In
their manifesto, the governors praised Gov. Perez for “being
a vibrant and persuasive leader.”
They
added that she has generated active participation among
local chief executives, regional directors and the private
sector representatives in the RDC, paving the way for a
Regional Development Plan that is in line with the national
development goals and thrusts.
Aside
from being reelected as chair of the RDC, Gov. Perez was
likewise given recognition for leading the RDC VI in the
past three years, with a stewardship that “significantly
created milestones, particularly in the field of assessing
regional development performance, prioritizing successfully
implemented projects of regional line agencies, local government
units, state universities and colleges which eventually
led to identifying and recognizing good practices in Region
VI.”
Perez’
work ethics sits well with the regional directors and NGO
and PO representatives, which resulted to well-attended
RDC meetings.
It
was noted that the RDC VI has conducted the most number
of meetings and conferences compared to its counterparts
all over the country.
“Gov.
Perez’ active involvement in the Federation of Regional
Development Councils (FRDC), as its vice-president for the
Visayas, gained positive responses from national government
agencies relative to the development needs of the region,”
her colleagues said.
The
RDC is the highest planning and policy-making body in the
region. It serves as the counterpart of the NEDA Board at
the sub-national level.
