League asks DepEd to review bidding for Palaro hosting

Gov. Imelda Q. Dimaporo
Lanao del Norte

The DepEd may have to take a second look at the bidding for the venue of the 2007 Palarong Pambansa following the protest raised by Lanao del Norte Gov. Imelda Q. Dimaporo.

The League unanimously approved a resolution requesting Education Sec. Jesli Lapuz to review the conduct of the bidding process for the 2007 Palarong Pambansa.

Gov. Dimaporo aired her concern over the alleged irregularities in the bidding process, particularly the technicalities in voting.

She explained that during the presentation of bids, the Province of Lanao del Sur made their offer based on the written bid they submitted to the DepEd about two or three months ago.

On the other hand, she said the City of Koronadal did not follow the process because when the Palaro board was about to vote, the DepEd regional director of Region 12 read the letter of Mayor Fernando Q. Miguel which contained the city’s bid offer in an amount higher than that made by Lanao del Sur.

Gov. Dimaporo explained that prior to the presentation, there were no other bidders aside from Lanao del Sur, and the offer of Koronadal City was made only a few minutes before the Palaro board were to vote on who would host the national games.

Consequently, the City of Koronadal won the bid to host the Palarong Pambansa in 2007.

With this development, Gov. Dimaporo wrote Education Sec. Jesli Lapuz about the matter, but there has been no action made yet. (AJS)
