RP sites top contenders for 7 wonders of nature search
No
less than four of the country’s foremost tourist sites
are among the top contenders in the search for the New 7 Wonders
of Nature.
The Tubbataha Reef of Palawan, the Chocolate Hills of Bohol,
the Underground River of Puerto Princesa City and the Mayon
Volcano of Albay have been officially chosen as candidates
for the New 7 Wonders of Nature global contest.
To ensure their inclusion in the final list of the New 7 Wonders
of Nature, Bohol Gov. Erico B. Aumentado and League executive
vice president and Palawan Gov. Joel t. Reyes sponsored a
resolution calling on all their colleagues and other local
government administrations to support the four nominated sites.
The resolution underscored the imperative need for the League
of Provinces of the Philippines to spearhead in securing votes
for the Tubbataha reef, the Chocolate Hills, the Underground
River and the Mayon Volcano in order that their inclusion
among the 21 finalists, and ultimately their selection in
the New 7 Wonders of Nature, can be realized.
Voting for the sites are done online by logging at www.new7wonders.com
where seven candidates will have to be voted on, for it to
be qualified and counted for the contest.
Only 21 out of about 77 sites will be chosen as finalists
through internet voting until December 31 2008 after which
a panel of experts will choose the final New 7 Wonders of
Nature will be chosen. (AJS)
