The
League of Provinces of the Philippines has lent its support
for the Bagong Nayong Filipino Entertainment City, the flagship
project of the Pagcor which is expected to generate no less
than 40,000 local jobs.
In a resolution sponsored by League secretary-general and
Eastern Samar Gov. Ben P. Evardone, the LPP cited that the
project will promote the country’s tourism which,
in turn, will directly impact on the country’s economic
development.
During
the LPP’s dialog with Pagcor held last September 19,
Pagcor chairman Efraim Genuino explained to the governors
that this ambitious project will not only boost the Philippines’
tourism statistics by more than a million, but will also
be providing jobs for not less than 40,000 Filipinos.
He added that those who will be employed at the Bagong Nayon
e-City will also be enjoying income levels at par with those
working in hotel casino complexes in the region, with salaries
paid out in US dollars.
Aside from the direct employment opportunities, another
150,000 indirect employment opportunities are expected to
be created in support of its operations.
The Pagcor estimates its annual gross revenues to triple
from its present level of US$500 million to US$1.5 billion
once the project is fully operational, which will all accrue
to the national government. (AJS)
